Dmitry Firtash

Дмитро́ Васи́льович Фі́рташ

Dmitry Firtash, a prominent Ukrainian oligarch, has been embroiled in multiple legal controversies over the years. In 2013, he was indicted by a U.S. federal grand jury on charges of bribery, racketeering, and money laundering, stemming from an alleged scheme to pay $18.5 million in bribes to Indian officials for titanium mining licenses, intended to supply a U.S.-based company [1]. The Fincen Files, an investigation led by OCCRP, exposed in 2020 leaked documents which accused him of having siphoned off more than $190 million of state loans his bank received in the wake of the global financial crisis, part of which he allegedly used for a deal to privatize a titanium manufacturing company [2]. In 2023, Ukraine seized millions in assets over gas scheme theft, which he allegedly orchestrated through the Regional Gas Company, which he was leading [3]. The UK sanctioned him in 2024 for allegedly having laundered hundreds of millions of pounds from Ukraine, investing substantial amounts in UK properties [4].
